The incident took place in New Haven County around 6:30 p.m., Thursday, June 22 in the parking lot of Rite Aid and Marshalls at 407 Main St., in Ansonia.
According to Lt. Patrick Lynch of the Ansonia Police, the first officers on the scene found a man suffering from a gunshot to the lower body.
Medical personnel responded to the scene and the man was transported to a local hospital for treatment, the wound is not life-threatening, Lynch said.
Lynch said an investigation found there was a dispute between two men in the parking lot during which a handgun was displayed and one of the men was shot.
The other man remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
The handgun was recovered, all the involved parties have been identified and there is no danger to the public, Lynch said.
The investigation is ongoing and there are no arrests at this time.
